Brisbane Insight Meditation Group Our group meets weekly on Sunday evenings from 7.00 - 9.00pm, at 63 Waldheim Street, Annerley in Brisbane. We are a mixture of experienced and less-experienced meditators who practice mainly in the Theravada Buddhist tradition. Our group does not have a leader, although we do have a connection with the teacher Patrick Kearney and Venerable Pannyavaro, who visit Brisbane a couple of times each year. Meetings are led by group members on a (completely voluntary) rotating basis. The usual format is a few minutes of chanting, a 40-45 minute sitting period, followed by a tea break, then a recorded talk, discussion period, reading or other activity. This can change, though, at the discretion of the week's leader. Beginners are welcome and instruction can be offered, however please let us know if you would like instruction either beforehand or when you arrive. • For further information: www.brisbaneinsight.org |

Buddhist Study groups in Brisbane Generally it is difficult to fully understand and apply the Buddhist teachings by merely reading books. Further if we attend regular teachings and courses it is difficult to maintain the enthusiasm for study and contemplation once we have left a teaching and it is difficult. Our lives are busy with work and family commitments and when confronted with problems it is sometimes difficult to keep our mind on the Buddhadharma. These study groups are intended to provide a supportive environment for students to develop enthusiasm, strength and joy for the exploration and application of Buddhism in their daily lives. The Buddhist Study Group follows the Tibetan Buddhist Tradition and is associated with Chenrezig Institute- Eudlo Queensland and Geshe Tashi Tsering (a fully qualified Lharampa Geshe in the Gelugpa tradition) who is the resident Lama at Chenrezig Institute. Beginner-intermediate level study group meets fortnightly at Holland Park to study the Three Principal Aspects of the Path by Tsong Khapa. Beginner level group meets fortnightly at Manly to study the basic principals of Buddhism such as karma, nature of mind, four noble truths etc. Each
group meets on Saturday morning 9-12.30 am and includes presentations,
discussion, meditations and homework. Small fee only to cover costs. STUDIES FOR ENLIGHTENMENT- module 1 Geshe Tashi Tsering , the resident Lama at Chenrezig Institute has given his consent for us to trail a new and exciting study programme planned to start in Brisbane in March 2004. This course will be based on his teachings on Mind and Cognition to be given in March/April 2004 at CI as part of the Buddhist Study Programme (BSP). The Mind and Cognition course is a fascinating exploration into model of the mind as presented in the Buddhist tradition. This journey provides an excellent interface to the western views on mind and psychology. By better understanding this model we can more clearly understand our basic drives which lead us to being entrapped within samsara and how to liberate ourselves from it. In addition to gaining a greater understanding of the workings of the mind it also helps to develop a greater faith in the Buddhist teachings and a greater respect for the intelligence and compassion of the Buddha. The Programme will run over 8-10 weeks and will be facilitated by full time Buddhist Study Programme (BSP) students Jeannette Weyers and Alan Carter. The course is intended for people who cannot attend the BSP at Chenrezig Institute and are willing to commit 10 hrs per week which includes : listening
to tapes (4.5hrs)
self
study (1.5hrs) Please contact Roger Johnson on (07) 3849 3622 for more details Web site: www.geocities.com/Brisbane_Buddhist_Study_Groups/index.html |
