Free ATM for Macintosh (needed to use Type 1 fonts) FREE 2.9 MB Adobe Type Manager Light 4.6 - Multiple Language Versions 10/17/2000 http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/new.html http://www.adobe.com/products/atmlight/main.html Free font utility for viewing and printing PostScript fonts Adobe® Type Manager® (ATM®) Light is a system software component that automatically generates high-quality screen font bitmaps from PostScript® Type 1 or OpenType outline font data. With ATM, you can scale your fonts without the characters appearing jagged, and you can also enable "font smoothing," which further improves the appearance of your fonts on-screen by using your computer monitor's color palette to intelligently improve the rendering of characters. ATM Light also allows you to print PostScript fonts on non-PostScript printers, and can be used to create custom instances of multiple master fonts. Current versions: Macintosh, 4.6; Windows (95, 98, NT4), 4.1 Please note: PostScript font support is built directly into Windows 2000, and ATM Light is not required on this platform.<<<<<<<<<<<<< Installing Fonts on the Macintosh The MacOS supports both PostScript Type 1 and TrueType font formats. You need Adobe Type Manager (ATM) to make PostScript Type 1 fonts appear smooth when viewed or printed at all sizes. If you use a font management utility to manage your fonts, follow the instructions for the utility to install and remove fonts. If you do not have a font management utility, you can install fonts into the System Folder. Note: The MacOS only allows you to open 128 font suitcases at one time. If you exceed this limit, not all the fonts you install will work. Installing Fonts into the System Folder Before installing fonts, you should close any open applications. For some applications, new fonts do not appear in the font menu if you install them while the application is open. In the Finder, open the window for your main hard disk, the one containing the System Folder. Arrange the window so that the System Folder icon is visible. Open the folder that contains the fonts you want to install. Select the font suitcases. For PostScript Type 1 fonts, also select the printer outline files. Drag the fonts onto the closed System Folder icon. A message should appear asking if you want to store these files in the correct folder to make them work. Click OK to install the fonts.
