'BEYOND WORDS' - the path of Korean Zen meditation in training the mind

Venerable Chi Kwang is a Zen/Seon Nun of nearly 30 years, a seasoned and skillful teacher, who trained formally for 20 years in the Jogye Order (primarily Songkwang Sa - temple) in South Korea. She is a deciple of the great Master Ku San Sunim and the renowned head of the Bhikkhuni Order, Venerable Myong Seong Sunim. Sunim is the founder of the Seon Centre and is very active in the greater Buddhist Community in Victoria.

With correct training of the body and mind through the tradition of Korean Zen & Hwadu meditation, stillness, clarity and deeper awareness into that inquiry of 'Mind' beyond words, will lead to pure realisation that this is no other than that.

Rohatsu Sesshin at Kodoji

5 12 December 2008
Teachers: Subhana Barzaghi Roshi & Paul Maloney

AWAKE! AWAKE!
Traditionally December the 8th is celebrated as the time of the Buddha's awakening.
We celebrate his awakening by dedicating ourselves to awakening our own heart-mind.
It is all too easy to become cosy and complacent in your meditation, so I urge you to remember
that this precious life is transient, all good things pass quickly away.
Sesshin is a golden opportunity to renew your practice and your vows.
Let’s practice together in the serenity of the valley and continue to nurture Kodo-ji,
as Ancient Ground in turn nurtures us.

Cost:
$330 SZC members, $380 non-members.
Due 16 November.
(An additional fee of l0%.is incurred after this date)
Limited concessions available.

Rigpa Autumn Retreat with Sogyal Rinpoche
November 28 - December 7 Clear Lake, CA

With his remarkable gift for presenting the heart essence, spirit, and flavor of Tibetan Buddhism in a way that has never been done before, both authentic and profoundly relevant to the modern mind, Sogyal Rinpoche is one of the most renowned teachers of our time. He is also the author of the spiritual classic, "The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying."

The atmosphere that Rinpoche creates is one of incredible warmth, love, and penetrating insight, as if he were speaking directly to the heart of each and every person present. He is often called an exceptional communicator, and people around the world have remarked on the power that his teachings have to reveal glimpses of the innermost nature of mind, lead to lasting transformation and inspire confidence in facing the challenges of daily life.

Meditation for Today

Meditation for Today was established in 1993 by Philippa (then Pip) Ransome, when Venerable Ayya Khema (1923-1997) asked her to teach meditation and the Dhamma. Ayya Khema, one of the great mystics of the twentieth century, is remembered for the clarity of her teachings and especially her understanding of the meditative absorptions. Philippa is one of only 6 teachers in Australia authorised by Ayya to pass on the Buddha’s teachings and Meditation for Today is dedicated to this purpose.

Retreats range from 1 to 10 days in length to meet the needs of beginning meditators and those already practicing towards stream entry. Unless otherwise stated all retreats are offered at Nyora Forest Retreat situated in the beautiful Yarra Valley an hours drive from Melbourne.

The teaching is pure, simple, joyful and speaks to the heart.
May you be well and happy!

The Buddha gave clear, precise instructions for systematically training our hearts and minds. The practice traditions are anchored in this practical approach to mental and spiritual development.

The art of meditation and mental training is like any other art; one needs to patiently train and practice the skills of the art, otherwise the free flowing 'Art' never fruits.

Daily interviews and Dharma talks will assist and guide meditators as they progress along the paths of these practices. The purpose of these retreat is to gain understanding and insight into the way our minds and beings interact with and affect our internal and external worlds. It is designed to cultivate clear self awareness and develop a number of tools that can be applied usefully to daily life.
